Benefits:

  • Research Training Program Scholarship (Fee Offset): Total fee coverage for a maximum of two years for those pursuing a Master’s by Research, or up to four years for doctoral candidates.
  • Research Training Program Scholarship (Stipend and Fee Offset): Comprehensive fee coverage for up to two years for Master’s by Research students, or up to four years for doctoral candidates. An annual living allowance of $37,000 (2024 full-time study rate) is provided for up to two years for Master’s students or up to 3.5 years for doctoral students. The living allowance may be adjusted annually, including limited paid sick, maternity, and parenting leave. A relocation grant of $2,000 is available for students relocating from other States or Territories within Australia, or $3,000 for those moving from abroad. International students requiring a student visa will receive Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) Single Membership.

Eligibility and Selection Criteria:

Eligibility: To qualify for this scholarship, candidates must have applied for or meet the entry criteria for a graduate research program at the University of Melbourne, or be currently enrolled in such a program.

Selection Criteria: Domestic students who gain admission to a Master’s by Research or doctoral degree (PhD) at the University of Melbourne will automatically receive a Research Training Program Scholarship (Fee Offset). Scholarships that include a stipend and fee offset are awarded to both domestic and international students based on academic excellence. Applicants are evaluated and ranked according to their academic record, research potential, and relevant achievements such as completion of a prior degree at the same level, professional experience, peer-reviewed publications, specialized medical qualifications, or original musical compositions.

Conditions: These scholarships adhere to the Graduate Research Scholarships Terms & Conditions (subject to amendments).

Application Process: If you have submitted an application for admission to a graduate research course by the specified closing date, you do not need to apply separately for this scholarship. You will automatically be considered for various graduate research scholarships within seven days of your course application submission. If you have received a course offer and deferred your start date to the next year, or if you are currently enrolled in a graduate research course and seek this scholarship, you must complete an online application form.
