The Narrm Scholarship extends its hand to both domestic students facing adversity and Indigenous students embarking on undergraduate studies.
Adversity is defined by circumstances such as residing in low socio-economic areas, receiving Commonwealth income support, coping with disabilities or medical conditions, or confronting challenging life situations.

Scholarship Advantages
This scholarship bestows the following benefits:
- Annual Living Allowance:
$6,500 per year, distributed in half-yearly increments of $3,250 each in April and September for four years. - Relocation Grant:
A one-time payment of $3,000, disbursed shortly after course enrollment, specifically for students hailing from regional or remote areas of Australia. - Accommodation Allowance:
Up to $20,000 annually for four years, paid directly to the accommodation provider for those from regional or remote areas of Australia residing in approved University Student Accommodation.^
All recipients of the Narrm Scholarship are also welcomed into the Narrm Scholars Enrichment Program, an exclusive initiative designed to aid students in their transition to and success at the university.
The living allowance may be extended by one year for students enrolling in the Diploma of General Studies, a Bachelor (Extended) program, a concurrent diploma, or a bachelor degree with honors.
^ From 2025 onwards. The value of the allowance is $20,000 annually for students living in approved University accommodation and $10,000 annually for those residing in University residential colleges. Some colleges may offer additional scholarships. Accommodation availability is not guaranteed, so early application is advised. For further information, refer to: Accommodation allowance.

Eligibility and Selection Criteria
Eligibility:
To be considered for this scholarship, you must:
- Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, or hold an Australian permanent visa.
- Have completed Year 12 or the International Baccalaureate within Australia.
- Not have undertaken subjects as part of a tertiary course (excluding extension program subjects).
- Have applied for a University of Melbourne undergraduate degree via VTAC’s Special Entry Access Scheme (SEAS) Category 1 (Personal Information and Location) and any other applicable categories, for commencement in the year following completion of Year 12 or the International Baccalaureate.
- Meet Melbourne entry requirements for the University of Melbourne course nominated in your VTAC application.
Or
- Be an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, self-identifying as such, and be recognized as such by the community in which you live or have lived.
- Have applied for a University of Melbourne undergraduate degree via VTAC or VTAC’s Special Entry Access Scheme (SEAS).
- Mandatory Meet the Access Melbourne entry requirements for the University of Melbourne course nominated in their VTAC application.
Selection Criteria:
From 2025, this scholarship will be extended to:
- All students from low socio-economic backgrounds.
- All students or whose parents/guardians receive income and asset-tested Commonwealth income support.
- All Indigenous students.
A limited number of scholarships will also be awarded to other students ranked highest based on their overall level of disadvantage, as indicated in their VTAC / SEAS application.
Conditions
The Coursework Scholarships Terms and Conditions govern this scholarship and may be deferred to the following academic year.
Moreover, students must consent to the University providing their name and course details to the donor of their scholarship and may be required to submit a brief report on the scholarship’s benefits.
